When maintenance and repair work is being done, a mechanical switch called an offload isolator is used to reliably disconnect a circuit and remove current from it. These switches are used to create safe maintenance and repair workplaces in many commercial and industrial units as well as distribution and EHV transmission substations.

1) Electrical offload isolators disconectors are only used when there is no load: Electrical isolators are used to open a circuit when there is no load. This means that it can only be used when the current flowing through it is zero.
2) Electrical isolators are different circuit breakers: A circuit breaker is an on-load device, whereas an isolator is an off-load device. A circuit breaker detects and trips when an electric fault occurs. Offload Electrical isolators must be manually operated.
3) High voltage equipment requires offload isolators: when high voltage equipment is turned on, it can cause electrical accidents. Offload isolator switches are required for such equipment. 11kv,22kv,33kv in H T Consumer Isolator switches were required in industrial units before the metering cubical and also in the Transformer feeder bay. Off load isolators are used in solar substations, generation infrastructure, and line isolation.

5) Operation of Offload Isolator : Isolators can be operated by either type. 1) manually (mechanical type) 2) motorised type. Both arrangements are provided in the fabrication structure at the bottom of the Off load isolator structure.
